Taiwan Province

Taiwan Province is located in the south eastern sea of mainland China, with a land area of 36,000 square kilometers, facing the east to the Pacific Ocean, the west to the Taiwan Strait and across Fujian Province.

Taiwan Island is roughly divided into five major terrains: mountains, hills, basins, plains, and terraces. More than half of the area is mountainous terrain in the east. The provincial capital of Taiwan is located in Taipei.

Taiwan population is about 23.6 million, more than 70% concentrated in 5 metropolitan area west of the island,of which Taipei is the capital city, the largest metropolitan area.

Economy

International trade is Taiwan’s economic life line. Mainland China is Taiwan’s largest trading partner and the number one region for import and export trade, followed by the United States and Japan.

Taiwan’s economy is dominated by small and medium-sized enterprises rather than large enterprise groups. Taiwan’s electronics information industry holds an important position in the global industrial chain, the world’s most computer electronic components are manufactured in Taiwan. High-tech industry has replaced labor-intensive industries, the agricultural share of GDP is 2%, the service sector and high-tech technology industry more than half the proportion of the total.

Investment in Mainland China

In order to reduce production costs, many manufacturing and labor-intensive industries in Taiwan have been transferred to mainland China. Taiwan has invested more than 150 billion US dollars in the mainland, and there are more than 80,000 Taiwan-funded enterprises in the mainland China.
